The HPE StoreOnce 3640 is an enterprise backup and data-protection appliance designed to provide scalable, efficient and reliable backup storage for small to midsized data centers and distributed IT environments.
The StoreOnce 3640 uses deduplication and compression technologies to reduce the amount of physical storage required for backup data. This makes it an effective platform for organizations looking to consolidate backup workloads while reducing storage requirements and backup infrastructure costs.
The standard 48TB configuration is built around a 2U rack-mountable system with 12 × 4TB drives, while the StoreOnce 3640 platform can be expanded to provide up to 144TB of raw capacity and 108TB of local usable capacity, depending on the installed capacity configuration.
The system supports multiple backup target technologies, including HPE StoreOnce Catalyst, Virtual Tape Library (VTL), and NAS using CIFS and NFS. This flexibility allows organizations to integrate the appliance into different backup architectures and existing data-protection environments.
For performance, HPE specifies up to 7TB/hour maximum write performance and up to 18TB/hour maximum Catalyst write performance, although actual performance depends on factors such as data type, deduplication, compression, number of data streams, backup targets and concurrent system operations.
The StoreOnce 3640 can also be used as a backup target for remote and branch offices, with HPE documenting support for up to 24 backup targets. Optional network connectivity can support 1GbE, 10GbE, 25GbE and Fibre Channel configurations depending on the installed networking hardware.
With its scalable architecture, enterprise backup features and rack-mounted design, the HPE StoreOnce 3640 is suitable for organizations seeking centralized backup storage, backup consolidation, data protection and disaster-recovery infrastructure.
