The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a powerful 2U enterprise rack server designed for data centers, businesses, virtualization environments, cloud applications and demanding IT infrastructures. Its flexible architecture provides a strong combination of processing power, memory capacity, storage and expansion capabilities.
This configuration is equipped with 2 × Intel Xeon Gold 6138 processors. Each processor features 20 physical cores and 40 threads, giving the system a total of 40 physical CPU cores and 80 threads. The Intel Xeon Gold 6138 has a 2.00GHz base frequency and can reach up to 3.70GHz using Intel Turbo Boost technology.
The server includes 32GB of RAM, providing a practical starting memory configuration for virtualization, databases, web hosting, business applications and other server workloads. The PowerEdge R740 has 24 DDR4 DIMM slots, allowing substantial memory expansion depending on the memory type and configuration.
Storage is provided by a 1.2TB SAS HDD, offering enterprise-oriented storage capacity for operating systems, applications and business data. The R740 supports SAS, SATA and Nearline SAS drives, with configurations supporting up to 16 front-accessible 2.5-inch drives or up to 8 front-accessible 3.5-inch drives depending on the chassis configuration.
The 2U rack-mountable chassis is designed for standard data-center racks. Dell specifies support for up to two Intel Xeon Scalable processors, two power supply units and multiple SAS/SATA storage configurations.
The R740 also features Dell iDRAC9 for server management and monitoring, making it suitable for professional IT environments where remote management and infrastructure monitoring are important.
With its high core-count dual-CPU configuration, the Dell PowerEdge R740 is particularly well suited for virtualization, cloud workloads, databases, web hosting, enterprise applications, data processing and other compute-intensive server environments.
